The Personal Assistant Service allows a consumer to live in their natural home, and community, and receive personal care giving support. Personal Assistant Service also allows a consumer the freedom to choose their caregivers, from a friend, family member, past caregiver, aid, or teacher.

Personal Assistant Service may include grooming, dressing, bathing, toileting, transfer and ambulation, skin care, extension of therapies and exercise, care of adaptive equipment, meal preparation, feeding and incidental household cleaning and laundry.

Personal Assistant Service may also include training and teaching instruction with shopping, banking, budgeting, using public transportation, social interaction, recreation and leisure activities. In addition, PAS may also include coaching and minor problem-solving necessary to achieve increased independence, productivity and inclusion in the community.

Through the Personal Assistant Program, the consumer can remain within their family and community network, continue to enjoy their ongoing and growing associations, and maintain and preserve their circle of friends.

Mulberry Street Personal Assistants must be trained in the following:

1. CPR
2. First Aid
3. Abuse/Neglect
4. Blood Born Pathogens and communicable disease
5. Positive Behavior Support and Gentle Teaching
6. Confidentiality Training (HIPPA) and Consumer Rights
